Tucked between the historic streets of York and the rolling landscapes near Malton, Fox Hill Holiday Park has long been a favourite for families seeking flexible countryside getaways. The Claxton-based retreat is now preparing for change, with new expansion plans submitted to North Yorkshire Council.
A new vision for a familiar countryside escape
The park’s new owners, Larkham Leisure, have applied for permission to install 15 additional static caravans. The proposal follows the company’s recent acquisition of the well-established holiday park, signalling an ambitious new chapter for the countryside getaway.
Interestingly, the land earmarked for these units was previously set aside for lodges and glamping pods. The revised plans indicate a shift in focus, embracing the enduring popularity of mobile holiday accommodation. For many British families, such getaways remain synonymous with freedom, flexibility, and the simple pleasures of life on the move.
Planning documents, prepared by Edwardson Associates, emphasise Larkham Leisure’s commitment to the local community. The company takes pride in employing local people and sourcing regional trades and suppliers. Each new pitch would include a dedicated parking space, offering convenience without spoiling the park’s rural charm.
Balancing growth with the Yorkshire landscape
Despite the headline figure of 15 new units, the overall increase is modest. Reports indicate a net gain of just two further pitches, suggesting some reconfiguration of existing or previously approved plots.
This isn’t the park’s first evolution. Last year, permission was granted to convert 20 seasonal touring pitches into static plots. In 2022, further approval covered a mix of lodges, pods, and static units, evidence of steady, carefully managed growth.
Consultants argue the proposal is in line with both national and local planning policy. They maintain it would fit within the landscape without harming views or road safety. Now, as North Yorkshire Council reviews the application, many will be watching to see how this next chapter of countryside getaways unfolds in Yorkshire.
